"In October 2023, I visited the house at 153 Summershore Dr in Auburndale, which was for rent with realtor David Small. We made him an offer $100 lower than the asking price. He called the owner, Belgian Mr. Peter Becker, who accepted our offer. We then made the security deposit and paid the last month in advance. A year later, having always paid all months on time, some even in advance, we informed Mr. Peter Becker that we would not be continuing in the house due to the Florida hurricanes having scared us. We set the date of January 20, 2025, for our departure. We spent the last 3 months living with the house floor that would crack in the middle of the night and come off the ground, rising up. This happened in every room of the house. Before leaving, I washed the entire house outside to make it look nice for renting again. I mowed the lawn once more, even though it hadn't grown enough yet, just to make life easier for the Landlord and save him money for a few more days. We moved out on January 17th, and that's when the story changes. We contacted Peter Becker, informing him that we had moved out that day and asking for the security deposit back. He returned the deposit but did not return the 5% interest that is in the contract, which must be returned along with the security deposit. Our rent was charged on the 1st of each month, the last month had already been paid in advance when we made the contract, so since we vacated 10 days before the end of the month, we asked that they return the 10 extra days that had been paid, but to our astonishment, Mr. Peter replied that he had already given a discount on the rent and would not return any amount and that we should not bother him again. Bizarre and astonishing, his response: what does the discount at the beginning of the contract have to do with it? I contacted Mrs. Angela Thomas by email, who manages David Small's office "THE SMALL TEAM," informing her of what happened and asking for the refund of the amount, and Mrs. Angela, who always responded quickly, stopped responding to us. I waited a few weeks and, without warning, went to her office, and when I met Mrs. Angela and told her that I had sent her emails and was not getting a quick response, she said that she had discovered that they were going to the trash. Well, if they were going to the trash and she discovered this before I arrived, why didn't she respond? Then I told her that I wanted back the amount provided for in the contract of 5% return on the security deposit. She asked me to send it to her by email to make her life easier and find the clause in the contract more easily, but guess what? She never responded to us! This is the team that I would certainly never do business with again, whether to rent a house or buy one, because after the client is no longer of interest to them, they stop responding to you!"
